RAFAEL “Popoy” CUSI


Born 1950 in Oriental Mindoro.  Studied printmaking under Manuel Rodriguez Sr. and at the PWU Fine Arts under the Michael Kahn grant. Numerous art awards, grants, and prizes from institutions and art competitions both in the Philippines and abroad, among others:  Detroit, Michigan and the Kenneth Clark International Art Contest.  Several one-man shows in renowned Philippine galleries. Tours of U.S. museums and several Asian cities.  Exhibition of his works in Los Angeles and Japan, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Bulk of CUSI’s works are in watercolor -- his favorite medium. Adept at both nature and figurative abstractions. He is considered today as the Philippines’ top water color artist even by his contemporaries using the medium. Awarded the “Arts Environmental Award”, in Rome.  Published “Philippine Coral Reefs in Watercolor.”  Included in “Who’s Who In International Art” and in the “Art Collectors Guidebook”, in Lausanne, Switzerland.  Works featured in over 2 dozen art books on Philippine art by Filipino authors.
