BENJIE TORRADO CABRERA


Cabrera completed his Masters in Fine Arts in 2006 at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts (UPCFA). He is currently an Assistant Professor at St.Scholastica's College in Manila and was a recipient of a grant in 1991 to study engraving at Atelier Contre Pointe (formerly Atelier 17) in Paris, France founded by Stanley W. Hayter. Cabrera is one of the few practitioners of "burin" engraving in the country and was a consistent winner in printmaking competitions. Among the awards he garnered were the First Prize in graphic arts category in the 1978 AAP Annual Competition and First Open Fine Print Competition of Philippine Association of Printmakers in 2002. He represented the Philippines in the 2nd and 3rd Kochi International Triennial Print Comepetition of Prints in 1991 and 1993 respectively, and the 3rd Tokyo Mini-Print Triennial in 2002 at Tama Art University Museum, all held in Japan.
